Southern Oregon head softball coach Kim Fritts announced today that Christie Hill has joined the SOU staff as an assistant coach.

Hill comes to SOU after serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater CSU Bakersfield. Hill will be in charge of the SOU pitching staff and will also be in head up recruiting and camps and clinics.

The Rogue Valley Country Club in Medford will host the 20th annual Lithia Raider Club Golf Shootout.

There is still time to sign up for the 20th annual Lithia/Raider Club Golf Shootout.

The annual tournament will be held Sept. 20-21 at the Rogue Valley Country Club.

Different sponsorship levels are available and individuals and teams can also play.

A new doubleheader format featuring men’s and women’s teams alternating time slots in conference play headlines the release of the 2010-11 Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s and women’s basketball schedules, CCC commissioner Dave Haglund announced.

The CCC recently voted to modify the structure of its conference doubleheaders, which historically have featured the women playing at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m. Beginning with the upcoming campaign, genders will split the two time slots. In the first half of conference play in 2010-11, men will play at 5:30 p.m. and women at 7:30 p.m.; in the second half, the genders will flip time slots. Men’s and women’s teams will flip their playing orders on a yearly basis.

The Southern Oregon athletic department finished 50th in the final standings of the annual NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.

The 50th place finish is out of 195 NAIA athletic departments that scored points at NAIA National Championships.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 12 sports – six women’s and six men’s.

This week's annual Battle of the Border team football camp at Southern Oregon took another big step this year.

The camp featured 350 campers and nine teams from Woodland, Calif. to La Pine, Ore. Most of team's attending this year's camp features coaches that are alums of the SOU football program.

This year's camp features scrimmages, 7-on-7 drills and practice sessions.

Southern Oregon head volleyball coach Josh Rohlfing today announced the signing of four individuals to National Letters of Intent to play for the Raiders during the 2010 season.

The group features junior college transfer Lauren Swetland (Cottonwood, Calif.) and high school products Claire Pynes (Etna, Calif.), Shannon Taylor (San Marcos, Calif.) and Sammie Waite (Crescent Valley, Ore.).

Southern Oregon senior Dolores Christensen has been named the female winner of the Cascade Conference's Champions of Character Award.

The Champions of Character Awards, symbolic of the NAIA’s signature national program designed to promote character development in youth and change the culture of sport, are given annually to the male and female student-athletes in the CCC who best exemplify the core tenets of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and servant leadership.

Southern Oregon junior running back Brandon Baldwin will be featured on regional cover of the eighth annual College Fanz NAIA Football Preview magazine.

Baldwin will be on the cover along with Carroll College tight end Bubba Bartlett and Rocky Mountain quarterback Kasey Peters. The cover represents the stars from the Frontier Conference and NAIA Independent teams.

The 2010 Southern Oregon football schedule is now up to 10 games after the school announced today they have added a second game with Menlo.

The Raiders and Oaks have added a November 6 game to play at Atherton, Calif. The two teams already were scheduled to meet Sept. 25 in Ashland, SOU's home opener.

With the 10 games, the Raiders now have six games against NAIA foes. SOU will face Eastern Oregon (Aug. 28), Simon Fraser (Sept. 11), Menlo twice, Azusa Pacific (Oct. 30) and Northwestern Oklahoma State (Nov. 13) in NAIA games.

Sweet Home High School standout Brock Crocker has signed a National Letter of Intent to wrestle at Southern Oregon next year.

Crocker is coming off a senior season in which he won the Oregon 4A State Championship at 152 pounds.

"Brock wrestled in one of the toughest weight classes in the state this year," SOU head coach Mike Ritchey said. "We like wrestlers that come from traditionally strong programs like Sweet Home, which is a wrestling community."
