Southern Oregon head softball coach Kim Fritts announced today that Christie Hill has joined the SOU staff as an assistant coach.

Hill comes to SOU after serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater CSU Bakersfield. Hill will be in charge of the SOU pitching staff and will also be in head up recruiting and camps and clinics.

A total of 20 Southern Oregon softball and track and field student-athletes have been named to the Spring Cascade Conference All-Academic squad.

A total of 189 student-athletes were honored by the conference. To earn the honor, the student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and be at least a sophomore.

Two months after resigning as Southern Oregon head softball coach, Kim Fritts is returning to the position she held for three-plus years.

SOU Athletic Director Matt Sayre announced the return of Fritts on Thursday.

“Kim is an outstanding coach and we consider ourselves lucky to have been able to convince her to come back,” Sayre said. “In her absence, our softball program was well-served by interim head coach Kolby Schooley, and we want to honor her efforts, but Kim is the coach we need to keep this program on its trajectory of success.”

Southern Oregon senior Meghan Laughlin and sophomore Kathryn Moy both earned Cascade Conference All-Conference honors the conference office announced over the weekend.

Laughlin earned her second-straight All-Conference honor and second-straight Gold Glove Award for her play in the outfield. Moy picked up Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.

The Southern Oregon softball team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to Corban this afternoon in the first game of the Cascade Conference Postseason Tournament in Portland.

Southern Oregon saw its season end with a 16-23 overall record. Corban went on to defeat fourth-ranked Concordia in the first game of a best two-out-of-three series to decide the conference's automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament.

The Southern Oregon softball team will get a chance to play for a berth in the NAIA National Tournament this Friday and Saturday when they take part in the Cascade Conference Postseason Tournament in Portland.

Third-seeded Southern Oregon (16-22, 12-12) will take on second-seeded Corban (22-21, 14-8) in the opener at Noon at Delta Park. The winner will face fourth-ranked Concordia (32-4, 21-3) at 3 p.m. in Game One of a best-of-three matchup. The second and third games will be played Saturday starting at Noon. The winner of the conference tournament gets an automatic berth in the NAIA National Championships.

Thanks to fourth-ranked Concordia sweeping Oregon Tech today in Portland, the Southern Oregon softball team wrapped up the third of three spots in next weekend's Cascade Conference Postseason Tournament.

Concordia swept Oregon Tech 11-0 and 12-1 to force a tie between SOU and OIT for the No. 3 seed. Based on SOU's 2-2 mark against Concordia and the fact Oregon Tech went 0-4 against the Cavs, SOU won the tiebreaker for third place.

The Southern Oregon softball team kept Cascade Conference postseason tournament dreams alive with a split with fourth-ranked Concordia today in Portland.

Concordia (30-4, 19-3) quickly won the first game today 9-0 and with the playoffs on the line, the Raiders (16-22, 12-12) came back to win the second game 5-3.

Senior Justine Fulton supplied a big bat as the Southern Oregon softball team split a pair of games with Oregon Tech today in Klamath Falls.

Southern Oregon exploded in the first game to claim an 11-7 victory. Oregon Tech came back to win the second game 8-3.

The split gives Oregon Tech the upperhand in the race for the final the final spot in the three-team Cascade Conference postseason tournament.

With a storm scheduled to hit the West Coast Tuesday, the huge doubleheader between Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls has been moved to Monday afternoon.

The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

The doubleheader will go a long way in clearing up a tight race for the final two spots available in the Cascade Conference Postseason Tournament.
