7.19.2010 | Wrestling
Aloha High School won the Team Championship at the 2010 SOU Wrestling Ultimate Team Camp.

Aloha had 29 wrestlers compete in the camp's tournament that helped set them apart from second place North Medford. North Medford did have more champions, finishing with five.

The camp featured 10 teams from Oregon and one team from California. Over 200 athletes took part in almost 700 matches in four days.

Brock Crocker Signing

Sweet Home High School standout Brock Crocker has signed a National Letter of Intent to wrestle at Southern Oregon next year.

Crocker is coming off a senior season in which he won the Oregon 4A State Championship at 152 pounds.

"Brock wrestled in one of the toughest weight classes in the state this year," SOU head coach Mike Ritchey said. "We like wrestlers that come from traditionally strong programs like Sweet Home, which is a wrestling community."

Robert Ross Signing

North Medford's Robert Ross signed a National Letter of Intent today to wrestle at Southern Oregon.

"We are really excited to get Robert," SOU head coach Mike Ritchey said. "He is an outstanding athlete for a big man and the top heavyweight prospect in the state this year."

Ross wrestled for SOU alum Nolan Harris at North Medford and was a two-time placer at the State Championships. This past season Ross was a state finalist.

Southern Oregon sophomore Mitchell Lofstedt has been named the NWCA/NAIA National Wrestler of the Year.

The award was handed out following Saturday's completion of the NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. Lofstedt is the first Raider to win the award.

Southern Oregon's Mitchell Lofstedt and Barry Johnson each claimed National Championships at today's NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla.

As a team, the Raiders finished second for the second consecutive year. Top-ranked Notre Dame (Ohio) ran away with the team title and Great Falls finished third.

"I'm proud of the way we wrestled," SOU head coach Mike Ritchey said. "It would have taken a great effort to beat Notre Dame this weekend. But to get three in the Finals is an impressive accomplishment."

Three members of the Southern Oregon wrestling team are set to wrestle for titles tomorrow night at the NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Mitchell Lofstedt will wrestle for the National Championship at 125 pounds, while Barry Johnson and Kyle Wirkuty will face off against each other for the title at 141. Saturday's finals can be viewed at www.souraiders.com.

The Raiders sit in second place in the team race with 38 points. Top-ranked Notre Dame (Ohio) sits on top of the leaderboard with 44 points.

With a goal of a top three finish, the sixth-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team has some work ahead of it as they get ready for this week’s NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The National Championships begin at 1 p.m. (CST) Thursday afternoon and continue through the Finals Saturday evening.

Southern Oregon finished second last year at the Nationals and will take 12 wrestlers to this year’s event.

The sixth-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team scored its second straight team title at today's NAIA West Qualifying Tournament in Havre, Mont.

The Raiders finished with 152 teams points to best second-ranked Great Falls' 134.5 points. Southern Oregon came away with three individual championships and four runner-up finishes.

The Southern Oregon wrestling team is off to Havre, Montana for Saturday’s NAIA West Qualifying Tournament.

The Raiders, ranked sixth in the latest NAIA Top 20 poll, will compete with Menlo, Great Falls, Embry-Riddle, California Baptist, Simon Fraser and host Montana State-Northern in the one-day tournament.
