Southern Oregon head men's basketball coach Brian McDermott announced today the signing of four individuals to play basketball for the Raiders in 2010-11.

Tyler Emrick (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS), Jordan Highland (Tualatin HS/Linn-Benton CC), Jeff Bush (West Linn HS) and Sam Osofsky (Westwood (Calif.) HS/College of Redwoods) have all signed National Letters of Intent.

Emrick and Bush will come in as freshmen to the SOU program.

Emrick, a 6-8, 190 pound forward/post, averaged 13.7 points and seven rebounds as a senior at Spanish Springs High School in 2008-09. He also shot 61 percent from the field and averaged 1.4 blocks.

“Tyler gives us an insider to with a the good young perimeter players we now have in the program,” McDermott said. “He really goes and gets rebounds and has very good timing as a shot blocker. We look for him to develop into a very good 4-5 man.”

Bush is a 6-2, 180 point guard and averaged 18 points and earned All-Conference honors as a senior.

“Pair with Kyle Tedder in the backcourt, we feel like we will be set for years to come,” McDermott said. “Jeff has a special feel for the game. He understands how to get all of his teammates involved while knowing when it is time to score himself. He will be a big strong point guard in our lead. He has wonderful vision and will impact games in many different ways.”

Highland and Osofsky are both coming in as junior transfers.

Highland, a 6-5, 200 guard/forward, averaged 13 points and seven assists and also led his team in assists last year as he earned All-NWAACC honors.

“Jordan will give us tremendous flexibility,” McDermott said. “He is good off the dribble, can shoot the 3 and go make a tough inside basket. He's a very good ball handler and passer and will give us another player on the floor with point guard skills even when he is playing the 3 or 4.”

Osofsky, a 6-5, 185 guard, averaged 12.3 points at College of Redwoods and also shot 89 percent from the free throw line and 44 percent from the 3-point line.

In high school, Osofsky averaged 27 points and eight rebounds and shot 46 percent from the 3-point line.

“We are really excited to add Sam to the mix,” McDermott said. “His signing makes this without question the best shooting group we have had since I have been here. Sam will be a great teammate with good work ethic. He also really knows how to play and is not just a shooter. He will be perfect in our motion offense.”
