ASHLAND -- The Southern Oregon wrestling team, fresh off a second-place showing at last weekend's NAIA National Championships, will host the 2012 Senior All-Star Duals Saturday at Bob Riehm Arena.
The All-Star Duals will feature high school seniors from Oregon, Washington and California and will be split into three different dual meets. Oregon will battle Washington at 2 p.m., with Washington taking on California at 4 p.m. and Oregon and California facing off at 6 p.m.
"This is a chance for seniors to become familiar with SOU wrestling and showcase their talents for many college coaches," SOU head coach
Mike Ritchey said. "We have our eyes on many of these guys and hope they will like how important wrestling is to Southern Oregon University."
The 2012 duals marks the 11th year the event has been held, and the student-athletes will compete for the right to take home the Dave Schultz Cup. Schultz was a World and Olympic champion, as well as an ambassador for the sport of wrestling.
Ritchey credtis Harry Mondale and Bert Vanduzer with initiating the event in 2001 and said that Oregon team coordinator - and SOU alum - John Breuer with playing an instrumental role in supporting the event.
"We appreciate our administration's support of this event, and look forward to perpetuating the brotherhood of wrestling through ambassador programs like this showcase," Ritchey said.
