DAY ONE RESULTS
KLAMATH FALLS – Two Southern Oregon athletes earned individual event titles on the first day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at John F. Moehl Stadium on the campus of Oregon Tech.
Ryan Sorenson (Sheridan, Wyo./Sheridan) gave the Raiders their first individual title of the 2012 championships, winning the 10,000-meter run in 31:59.06.
Mikayla Garrard (Klamath Falls, Ore./Mazama) earned the championship in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.32 meters.
Max Perry (Florence, Ore./Siuslaw) finished second in the hammer throw, tying his personal-best mark from 2011 with a throw of 190-7 to give the Raiders three all-conference performers on the first day.
Tyler Tompkins (Adams, Ore./Weston Mcewen) set a personal-best in the hammer with an NAIA “A” Standard mark of 177-11, finishing sixth in the event.
Hannah Mason (Eagle Point, Ore./Eagle Point) also set a new career-best in the women's hammer with a throw of 138-8, the third-best mark in SOU history.
Defending team champion Concordia sits atop the men's and women's team leaderboards after one day of competition, with Southern Oregon ranking third on the men's side and tied for fourth on the women's side. Competition will resume Saturday in Klamath Falls, beginning at 3 p.m.
