The Southern Oregon football team ran off the 20 final points of the fourth quarter and upset 21st-ranked Eastern Oregon 34-30 today in La Grande. Southern Oregon is now 1-0 on the season and off until Sept. 11 when they travel to Simon Fraser. "This says a lot about the character of our guys," SOU head coach Steve Helminiak said. "Even being down they were still battling and believed they had a chance to win. Southern Oregon head coach Steve Helminiak has named Berk Brown as the new defensive coordinator of the SOU football program. Brown took over duties on Saturday, just in time for the Raiders first practice. "Berk is a talented young coach," Helminiak said. "He's an alum, bleeds red and black and has been exposed to a number of different talented coaches during his time as a coach.
