One of Southern Oregon's most versatile players ever, Dennis Shields broke eight school rushing and scoring records as a running back, placekicker, and kick returner from 1974 to '77.  The Coquille native became only the second NAIA All-American in school history as a sophomore in 1975 after he led the Evergreen Conference and finished in the national top-five for rushing yards (883) and scoring (95).  Shields completed his football career as a three-time Evergreen Conference all-star and a four-year starter.  His SOU career records of 2,425 rushing yards and 216 points stood for over 20 years.
