SOU-Simpson Boxscore
The 19th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team forced 30 turnovers and scored a 75-54 victory over Simpson University tonight in Redding, Calif.
Southern Oregon is now 2-0 on the season. Simpson fell to 0-5. The Raiders return to action Friday when they face Fresno Pacific in Rocklin, Calif. at the William Jessup Invitational.
The Red Hawks hung with the Raiders through the beginning of the first half, evening the score at 9-9 before SOU began to pull away.
A layup by
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) and a 3-pointer by
Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) pushed the SOU lead to 14-9.
Scott then turned a turnover into a layup and after another breakaway layup by
Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista), the Raiders were cruising at 20-12.
SOU held Simpson to 29 percent shooting in the first half as they built a 35-22 halftime lead.
The Raiders, who had trouble shooting themselves, hit on 40 percent of their shoots in the second half to put the game away.
Scott led the Raiders with 16 points, including four 3-pointers and also added five assists.
Speer finished with 11 points and nine rebounds and
Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita) had 10 points and eight rebounds.
