Emily Brookins (Central Point, Ore./Crater) took advantage of her first start of the season to lead the Southern Oregon women's basketball team to an 81-65 victory over Cascade College tonight in Portland.
The Raiders improved to 13-4 overall and 5-3 in Cascade Conference play. Cascade dropped to 8-7 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Brookins finished with a team-high 18 points to pace the Raiders.
Rhiannon Dickison (Redding, Calif./Anderson) and
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) both had 17 points. Speer also had 11 rebounds. Junior
Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita) finished with a game-high 15 rebounds and eight points.
Kristina Schumacher led Cascade with 20 points.
Brookins started off the game with a pair of 3-pointers and nine points in games first four minutes to pace the Raiders. Brookins finished with 13 points in the first half as the Raiders led 32-29 at the half.
In the second half, Cascade made a run to tie the game at 35-35 before SOU exploded on a 24-9 run to take control.
The Raiders travel to Eugene Monday to face Evergreen State College in a makeup game from a December contest that was cancelled because of weather.
