SOU Women Race To Sixth Straight

A big second half run helped the Southern Oregon women's basketball team score their sixth-straight victory, 89-76 over Evergreen State tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

The Raiders are now 17-4 overall and 9-3 in Cascade Conference play. Evergreen State dropped to 9-10 overall and 4-8 in conference action.

Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) led the Raiders with 21 points and seven assists. Rhiannon Dickison (Redding, Calif./Anderson) finished with 20 points and Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) finished with her 13th double-double of the year with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Kristin Auckland led Evergreen with 20 points.

Freshman Lindsey Scheffler (Castle Rock, Wash./Toutle Lake) gave the Raiders a boost off the bench in the first half, going for eight points in seven minutes of action as SOU jumped out to a 31-24 halftime advantage.

The Raiders shot just 27 percent from the field in the first half, but made 40 percent of their 3-pointers (including two by Schefffler) to stay in control of the game.

In the second half the Geoducks came out on fire and shot 70 percent for most of the half, taking a 63-62 lead on a Joy White layup.

The Raiders answered back with a 7-1 run to regain control. Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita) started the run with a bucket in the paint and a Dickison 3-pointer gave SOU a 67-63 lead.

Scott capped the run with a three point play and the Raiders were able to ice the game from the free throw line.
