SOU Women Overcome Slow Start

The 20th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team overcame a slow start to down Corban 93-74 tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

The Raiders are now 11-3 overall and 3-2 in Cascade Conference play. Corban fell to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in conference action.

Southern Oregon junior Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) turned in her sixth-straight double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Junior guard Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) had a game-high 22 points, while Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita) went for 16 points and Rhiannon Dickison (Redding, Calif./Anderson) had 10 points.

Kailey Bostwick finished with 21 points and nine assists for Corban.

For the second straight night, the Raiders started off slow before finishing the first half shooting 40 percent to take a 45-40 lead.

It was all Southern Oregon in the second half.

A pair of Emily Brookins (Central Point, Ore./Crater)' free throws, a Scott 3-pointer and a Speer basket in the post gave the Raiders a 65-53 lead with 12:04 to play.

A Dickison 3-pointer pushed the lead to 87-72 with 3:48 to play as the Raiders cruised the rest of the way.

Southern Oregon travels to Oregon Tech Tuesday night.
