The 25th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team received huge games from
Rhiannon Dickison (Redding, Calif./Anderson),
Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) and
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) as they knocked off 8th-ranked College of Idaho 75-69 tonight in Caldwell, Idaho.
The Raiders have now won seven straight games and improved to 18-4 overall and 10-3 in Cascade Conference play. College of Idaho had a 21-game win streak snapped and fell to 21-2 overall and 12-1 in conference action.
Dickison finished with a team-high 25 points to lead the Raiders, including a 12-for-14 effort from the free throw line. Scott finished with 20 points and four 3-pointers. Speer scored 12 points and came away with 20 rebounds to finish with her 14th double-double on the season and her fifth straight.
Nicole Gall had a game-high 27 points and seven 3-pointers to lead the Coyotes.
SOU's victory can be attributed an impressive first half performance, which included 11 3-pointers.
After falling behind 8-0 three minutes into the game, the Raiders caught fire.
A free throw by Dickison tied the game at 10-10 at the 15:10 mark and five minutes later the Raiders had a 26-14 lead after a 3-pointer by Scott.
The lead got up to 20 at 34-14 on a
Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) jumper and in all a 34-6 first half run helped SOU lead 52-34 at the half.
In the second half, the Raiders suddenly went cold.
SOU finished the second half hitting on just 4 of 30 shots (13 percent).
The Coyotes cut the SOU lead to two on back-to-back possessions with under 3:00 to play, but free throws held off the Coyotes and a layup by
Emily Brookins (Central Point, Ore./Crater) pushed the SOU lead to 71-66 with 1:23 to play.
Scott hit a pair of free throws late to ice the game.
During the Coyotes second half run, the hosts scored 17 points off SOU turnovers.
SOU travels to Eastern Oregon Saturday night.
