Owls Overcome Speer's Big Night

The Oregon Tech women's basketball team made 13 3-pointers to counter a career-night by Southern Oregon's Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) in a 78-74 victory over the Raiders tonight in Klamath Falls.

Oregon Tech improved to 10-6 overall and 3-4 in Cascade Conference action. Southern Oregon dropped to 11-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Southern Oregon travels to Northwest Christian Saturday night.

Nicole Morgan led the Owls with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Morgan had five of OIT's 13 made 3-pointers.

Speer led all scorers with a career-high 32 points and also 10 rebounds. Speer now has seven straight double-doubles and nine on the season. Rhiannon Dickison (Redding, Calif./Anderson) had 16 points and Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita) finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Owls used the impressive outside touch to jump out to an early lead.

A 3-pointer by Meagan Miyasaka gave the Owls a 24-15 lead and Oregon Tech led 32-29 at the half thanks to seven 3-pointers.

Speer had 15 points and Baker had 10 points in the first half.

The Raiders made it close in the second half. A 15-5 SOU run tied the game at 45-45 and the Raiders tied it again at 64-64 with 4:37 to play on a three point play by Speer.

OIT pushed the advantage to 72-67 with 2:19 to play on a Kelly Morey free throw, but the Raiders cut the lead to 72-71 with 1:42 to go on a pair of Baker free throws.

OIT closed out the game on a 6-3 run.

The Owls finished the game 13-for-26 from 3-point range, while SOU finished 2-for-14.
