The Southern Oregon women's soccer team scored on an own goal and came away with a 1-0 victory over Northwest today in Kirkland, Wash.
The Raiders are now 5-7-1 overall and 3-2 in Cascade Conference play. Northwest fell to 1-9-2 overall and 0-5-1 in conference.
The two teams were in the middle of a scoreless tie when the Raiders finally got on the board at the 87:00 mark.
Maddi Sprott (Portland, Ore./Liberty)'s shot was deflected by a Northwest defender and found its way into the goal to provide the only goal of the game.
Northwest finished with a 12-6 shot advantage.
Denise Powell (Grants Pass, Ore./Hidden Valley) had two shots on goal, while
Chenin Young (Upland, Calif./Upland) and Sprott had one shot on goal each.
"We showed great perseverance today and stayed focused," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "Our defensive shape was very good and our fitness level started to show in the second half."
Today's match was the third straight shutout for the SOU defense.
SOU hosts Warner Pacific Friday afternoon.
