BOXSCORE
Taylor Culver's second half goal allowed the College of Idaho women's soccer team to remain perfect in Cascade Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Southern Oregon this afternoon at University Field.
College of Idaho improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in conference matches. Southern Oregon dropped to 2-7-1 overall and 0-2 in conference. The Raiders host Eastern Oregon Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, Culver put the Coyotes on the board with a goal from 10 yards out at the 66 minute mark off an assist by Jamie Reichel. The ball barely got past
Jessica Kuehlwein (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City), SOU's diving goalie.
“Against a good team if you lose shape one time, they will make you pay for it and that's what happened,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said.
After the Coyotes out-shot the Raiders 11-3 in the first half, the Raiders came out as the aggressive team to start the second half and finished the half with a 4-3 shot advantage.
“I really thought we did a great job of recapturing the game in the second half,” Clement said. “We did a nice job of pushing the tempo. Overall we had some really good moments of good play, but we are still a little inconsistent.”
Erica Mouritsen, the conference's leading goal scorer, was held scoreless - but finished with five shots and three shots on goal for the Coyotes.
Kuehlwein finished with seven saves for the Raiders, while
Alexis Mahoney (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente),
Stephanie Carr (Upland, Calif./Upland) and
Mo Costello (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) all had shots on goal for the Raiders.
