Wolves Get Defensive In Shutout Of SOU

Western Oregon held Southern Oregon to 131 yards of offense as the NCAA Division II Wolves scored a 23-0 victory over the Raiders today in Monmouth.

Western Oregon improved to 3-2 overall. Southern Oregon dropped its third straight and fell to 1-4. SOU travels to Azusa Pacific next Saturday.

Southern Oregon had 131 yards of offense, 87 through the air and 44 on the ground.

Western Oregon got on the board on at the 8:47 mark of the first quarter, Jon Dowd fumbled an SOU punt, then picked it up and went 49 yards for a 7-0 Western Oregon lead.

SOU looked like they had answered the touchdown, but Brandon Baldwin (Palo Cedro, Calif./Foothill) fumbled the ball into the end zone to give the Wolves the ball back.

Western added a Kelly Morgan field goal and a Sean Fullerton touchdown reception to take a 17-0 lead at the half. Morgan's field goal was setup by a fumbled punt return.

Morgan added two fourth quarter field goals to wrap up the scoring.

Baldwin finished the game with 35 yards rushing on 20 carries. Freshman Alex Miller (Mountain View, Calif./Aragon) finished the game 7 of 16 for 76 yards.

Defensively, SOU held WOU to 296 yards of offense. Kevin Harrell (Napa, Calif./Vintage) had a team-high 11 tackles for SOU.

Western Oregon was led by DJ Jackson's 75 yards rushing.
