SOU Women Go To 5-0

The 18th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team stayed perfect on the season with a 97-92 victory over Great Falls tonight in Great Falls, Mont.

Southern Oregon improved to 5-0 on the season. Great Falls dropped to 0-7 on the season. Southern Oregon faces Montana State-Northern Saturday night.

SOU's Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) had her fifth-straight double-double of the year with 31 points and 10 rebounds. The 31 points mark the third time this year Speer has gone over 30 points in a game.

Speer took another step up SOU's career scoring ladder, passing Denise Berry for fourth on the all-time list. With her 10 rebounds, Speer joined Julie Finch as the only Raiders to have over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds during a career. The senior's 17 made free throws rank second all-time.

Lindsey Scheffler (Castle Rock, Wash./Toutle Lake) had a career-high 19 points and Gabe Johnson (Corvallis, OR/Corvallis) finished with 12 points.

Southern Oregon shot just 33 percent in the first half and held a 44-40 advantage at the half. In the second half, both teams let loose offensively with SOU shooting 55 percent from the field and Great Falls shooting 51 percent.

Great Falls tied the game with 2:23 to play, but SOU answered with a runner by Johnson and SOU out-scored the hosts the rest of the way.

Kristy Henderson had 43 points for Great Falls on 16 of 24 shooting.
