NCAA D-I Oregon forced 45 turnovers and scored a 109-47 victory over NAIA Southern Oregon in an exhibition game tonight at Mac Court in Eugene.
The 18th-ranked Raiders open up the regular season Friday night at Holy Names in Oakland, Calif.
The Ducks jumped out to a 19-2 advantage in the first five minutes of the game, in part to 10 SOU turnovers that resulted in 12 Oregon points.
Southern Oregon came back and cut the lead to 27-12 after six quick points by
Krystal Smith (Olympia, Wash./River Ridge) off the bench, but a 13-3 run by Oregon again gave the hosts the breathing room they needed.
The Ducks led 60-26 at the half and forced 24 SOU turnovers. Smith had 11 points in the first half on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 shooting from the free throw line.
Oregon continued to pour it on in the second half and for the game, scored 54 points off turnovers.
Smith scored 13 points to lead SOU and
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) finished with 10 points. Smith and Speer both had eight rebounds.
Molly Doran (Corvallis, OR/Crescent Valley) and
Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) both had five points for SOU.
Micaela Cocks led Oregon with 22 points, including two 3-pointers.
