A 9-0 second half run was more than enough as the ninth-ranked Southern Oregon women scored an 86-71 victory over Northwest Christian tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders improved to 13-3 overall and 2-3 in Cascade Conference play with the victory. Northwest Christian fell to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia), in foul trouble in the first half, led the Raiders with 20 points and also nine rebounds and two blocks.
Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita) had 13 points and nine rebounds, while
Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) and
Emily Brookins (Central Point, Ore./Crater) both finished with 12 points.
Krystal Smith (Olympia, Wash./River Ridge) had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Aly Bruns turned in a team-high 14 points for the Beacons.
The Raiders held the Beacons to 37 percent shooting in the first half and led 40-37 at the intermission. In the second half, the Raiders took off on a 9-0 run, led by a pair of layups by Smith.
A layup by Scheffler gave the Raiders a 70-55 lead with 8:22 to play and SOU cruised from there, shooting 52 percent in the second half.
Southern Oregon returns to action tomorrow night when they host Corban.
