The Corban women shot 70 percent in the second half and scored an 82-71 victory over ninth-ranked Southern Oregon tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
Corban improved to 6-10 overall and 2-3 in Cascade Conference play with the victory. Southern Oregon dropped to 13-4 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
Katie Steigleman led Corban with 21 points. Emily Tsugawa finished with 15 points, followed by Jennesa Miller with 14 and Monique Tribble with 10.
SOU's
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) led all scorers with 26 points and
Gabe Johnson (Corvallis, OR/Corvallis) had 15 points.
The Raiders struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 20 percent on 6 of 29 shots. Corban took advantage of SOU's misfiring by hitting nearly 40 percent of their shots and a 31-24 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Warriors warmed-up and were able to hold off a late SOU charge.
SOU had cut the lead to 62-37 with under six minutes to play on a 3-pointer by
Lindsey Scheffler (Castle Rock, Wash./Toutle Lake), but a 3-pointer by Tsugawa helped put the Warriors up 69-59.
Corban went 16-for-19 from the free throw line in the game, including 13 of their final 14 to ice the game.
SOU travels to Evergreen State and Northwest next weekend.
