Senior Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) turned in yet another double-double as 12th-ranked Southern Oregon women opened Cascade Conference play with a 66-62 victory over 19th-ranked Concordia tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

The Raiders improved to 9-0 overall and set a record for the most wins to start a season in school history. Concordia fell to 5-3 overall. SOU hosts Warner Pacific Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.

Speer finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds for her eighth double-double in nine games this year. Krystal Smith (Olympia, Wash./River Ridge) and Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) both had 10 points for the Raiders.

Rachel Scarpelli had 19 points to lead the Cavaliers.

Southern Oregon got defensive in the first half, holding the Cavs to 20 percent shooting on a 6-for-29 effort from the field. Speer helped the Raiders get out to the early by scoring 10 of SOU's first 15 points, en route to a 15 point and 11 rebound half and a 35-23 lead at the half.

Concordia opened the second half with an 11-0 run and never let up.

A 3-pointer by Scarpelli with 7:42 to play tied the game at 50-50. But SOU kept the pressure on and a layup by Speer and a 3-pointer by Lindsey Scheffler (Castle Rock, Wash./Toutle Lake) gave SOU some breathing room until the final minutes.

Tied at 60-60 with 57 seconds to play Smith came away with an offensive rebound and layup to give the Raiders the lead for good.
