In a thrilling come from behind game, the 21st-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team defeated Oregon Tech on a
Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) last second layup to win 80-78 tonight at McNeal Pavilion stretching their winning streak to 11 games.
The Raiders improved to 22-4 overall and 14-3 in Cascade Conference action while the Owls dropped to 13-13 and 6-11 in conference competition.
The Raiders last defeat was at the hands of the Owls back on Jan. 6.
SOU was led by Scott's 20 points, three assists and three steals with
Rhiannon Dickison (Redding, Calif./Anderson) adding 19 points and eight rebounds. Scott also moved over the 1,000 point plateau for her career.
Junior
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) added 16 points and 11 rebounds for her 17th double-double of the season and moved into eighth place on SOU's career scoring list.
Oregon Tech's Kellie Morey finished with a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds.
Leading 40-31 at the half after holding SOU to 36 percent shooting, Oregon Tech continued to pour it on the second half and led 50-37 just three minutes into the half.
With 5:05 left, the Raiders found themselves down 74-59, however they still had something up their sleeves.
Led by lockdown full court press and excellent defense, the Raiders rallied to take the lead 75-74 on a Speer free throw and then again at 77-76 with 1:09 to play on a Speer jumper.
The Owls answered with a jumper with 21 seconds to play to regain the lead at 78-77.
Down by a point, the Raiders then put it in the hands Scott who drove, scored and was fouled with seven seconds to go. After the free throw, the Raiders led 80-78.
With seconds left, the Raiders defense was able to tighten up to preserve the win.
SOU will finish off their home schedule for the regular season Friday against Northwest Christian.
