Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) and
Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita) each came away with double-doubles, but the Southern Oregon women couldn't overcome a first half deficit and fell to Corban 67-64 tonight in Salem.
The Warriors improved to 9-16 overall and 4-8 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon dropped to 15-8 overall and 4-8 in conference action. The Raiders travel to Northwest Christian Saturday night.
Speer led the way for the Raiders with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Baker finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Tess Bennett led the Warriors with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
After the game was tied at 11-11 midway through the first half, Corban sprinted away from the Raiders and took a 38-27 lead at the half.
The Corban lead was 15 at 55-40 with 12:39 to play, when the Raiders came storming back.
A layup by
Emily Brookins (Central Point, Ore./Crater), a free throw by Baker and a layup by
Krystal Smith (Olympia, Wash./River Ridge) had the Corban advantage down to eight at 55-47.
Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) then hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 55-50.
Freshman
Gabe Johnson (Corvallis, OR/Corvallis) cut the advantage to 60-56 with a layup at the four minute mark.
With under two minutes to play, Speer hit a layup and a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 63-62, but the Warriors hit four free throws down the stretch to hold off the Raiders.
