A wild finish ended with the ninth-ranked Southern Oregon women scoring a 68-65 victory over Northwest University tonight in Kirkland, Wash.
Southern Oregon improved to 14-5 overall and 3-5 in Cascade Conference play. Northwest dropped to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in conference action. Southern Oregon returns home next Saturday when they host arch-rival Oregon Tech.
Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita) had one of her best games as a Raider and he best game of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds. The senior also added four steals and one rebound.
Jamie Roupp (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) also turned in her best game as a Raider, going for 10 points and six rebounds.
Emily Brookins (Central Point, Ore./Crater) finished with 11 points and
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) had six points and 10 rebounds.
Jassalyn Jackson led Northwest with 15 points.
Northwest looked to be in control of the game with a 35-30 lead at halftime and carrying that through most of the second half.
Brookins hit a 3-pointer with over a minute to play to give the Raiders a 66-63 lead, but an unnecessary long range attempt on the next possession gave Northwest the ball back and two free throws cut the lead to one at 66-65.
The Raiders then had a shot blocked on their next possession, but Speer came away with a rebound and a quick timeout. The Raiders didn't take advantage of the of the possession as they traveled immediately on the pass inbounds to give the Eagles the ball back with 25 seconds to play.
Northwest fired away from deep following a timeout and Speer came away with the rebound and calmly stepped to the line and nailed a pair of free throws for a 68-65 lead and SOU the victory.
The game took over two hours to play, thanks to 56 fouls and 56 turnovers.
