Stephanie Carr (Upland, Calif./Upland) scored a pair of goals as the Southern Oregon women's soccer team scored a 3-0 victory over Eastern Oregon today in La Grande.
The Raiders improved to 9-3-1 overall and 3-1 in Cascade Conference play. The nine wins tie for second most in the program's history. The record for wins in a season in 11, set back in 2003. SOU travels to College of Idaho for a key conference matchup tomorrow.
Carr first got the Raiders on the board in the 18th minute off an assist by
Danielle Stave (Petaluma, Calif./St Vincent de Paul). The sophomore made the score 2-0 in the 74th minute with an unassisted goal.
Carr now has a team-best seven goals on the season.
"Stephanie has a great understanding of what to do when she gets the ball," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "She's the type of player that drags defenders with her and that opens everything up for us."
Denise Powell (Grants Pass, Ore./Hidden Valley) iced the game with a goal in the 85th minute.
The Raiders pounded out 21 shots compared to Eastern's eight. Carr finished with five shots, while Powell finished with four.
Jessica Kuehlwein (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) and
Devon Walker (Yelm, Wash./Yelm ) combined for the shutout on goal.
