The Southern Oregon women's and men's cross country teams cruised to the team titles at today's Mike Hodges Invitational at Clackamas Community College.
The 13th-ranked SOU women won the team title with 24 points, outdistancing Everett (75), Willamette (79) and Clackamas (108) as well as NCAA Division I Seattle University and NCAA Division II Western Oregon.
The top-ranked SOU men also won the team title with 24 points, besting Western Oregon (40) and Willamette (127).
The story of the day was the dominance of the SOU women.
The Raiders placed six individuals in the top 10 in the race, led by sophomore
Seena Frantz (Ashland, Ore./Ashland).
Frantz finished third overall in a time of 18:16. She was followed by
Anya Martinez (Central Point, Ore./Crater) (fifth, 18:25),
Summer Cano (Hillsboro, Ore./Century) (sixth, 18:33),
Laurie Stoutenburgh (Central Point, Ore./Crater) (eighth, 18:39),
Tara Krempley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) (ninth, 18:40) and
Kristen Juveland (Central Point, Ore./Crater) (10th, 18:52).
"It was a special day for the girls," SOU head coach Brent Ericksen said. "They dominated the race. They went out and ran aggressive and it was fun to watch."
David Laney (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic) claimed the individual title for the SOU men, winning the four-mile race in 19:31.
Zach Elliott (Central Point, Ore./Crater) finished third in 20:09, followed by
James Johnstone (Lake Arrowhead, Calif./Rim of the World) (fourth, 20:18),
Ryan Sorenson (Sheridan, Wyo. /Sheridan) (seventh, 20:22), Josh Seitz (ninth, 20:26),
Dennis McCaffrey (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) (10th, 20:28) and
Ryan Ghelfi (Redding, Calif./Redding Adventist) (11th, 20:30).
