The Southern Oregon women's soccer team improved to 4-1 in Cascade Conference play with a 1-0 victory over College of Idaho today in Caldwell.
The Raiders are now 10-3-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Southern Oregon returns home next week against Northwest and Evergreen State.
Ashton Griffen (Duvall, Wash./Cedarcrest) put the Raiders on the board early and the defense and goalkeeper
Jessica Kuehlwein (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) made the goal stand.
Griffen took advantage of a great pass from
Denise Powell (Grants Pass, Ore./Hidden Valley) to put the Raiders up 1-0 in the 24th minute.
After that, the SOU defense took over.
Kuehlwein finished the match with six saves, including five saves in the second half.
"Jess was special today," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "She made a save at the end of the game that may have been one of the best saves I've seen in college soccer."
College of Idaho out-shot the Raiders 11-2 on the afternoon.
