The Southern Oregon women's basketball team opened up the 2010-11 season with a 72-53 victory over Bethany tonight in California.

Josi McDermott (Ashland, Ore./Ashland), Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) and Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) all had 11 points for the Raiders.

Kiara Moore (Phoenix, Ariz./Tolleson Union) finished with nine rebounds, while Scott had eight boards and Smith finished with seven rebounds.

For the game, SOU shot 36 percent from the field and out-rebounded Bethany 52-38.

SOU takes on CSU-Maritime tomorrow afternoon.
