Playing against one of the top NCAA Division III program's in the Nation, the Southern Oregon women came up just short and dropped a 73-68 decision at George Fox tonight.
The Bruins, ranked eighth in the USA Today, ESPN Top 25 Division III poll, improved to 2-0 on the season. Southern Oregon dropped to 3-3 on the season.
Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) led the Raiders with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
Jamie Roupp (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) had six points and six rebounds.
Hannah Munger had 23 points for George Fox and Megan Arnoldy had 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite a rash of turnovers late in the first half, the Raiders trailed just 73-68 at the halftime break.
Southern Oregon then jumped out to an 11-4 run to open the second half and after a 3-pointer by Scott led 42-37.
The two teams were tied three more times before the Bruins took the lead for good.
Southern Oregon travels to Salem Saturday to face Simon Fraser.
