Corban freshman Tera McDonough scored the lone goal of the game in the 48th minute as the Warriors scored a 1-0 victory over Southern Oregon in the Cascade Conference semifinals today in Salem.
The Raiders wrap up the season 12-5-2 overall and will now wait for a very slim chance to get an at-large berth to the NAIA National Tournament. The Raiders were ranked 35th in the last RPI rankings that came out two weeks ago. The National Tournament takes the top 32 teams.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half before Corban finally found the net at the beginning of the second half.
"We had a good start," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "But Corban changed the tempo and we made a mistake to start the second half and they took advantage of it and scored a goal. We fought back hard though and had a couple changes toward the end of the game."
Junior goalkeeper
Jessica Kuehlwein (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) kept the Raiders in the game, coming away with five saves on the afternoon.
For the game, Corban led in shots at 16-10 and SOU led in corner kicks at 9-7.
"I'm happy with the season, but I think we are all kinda disappointed with outcome today," Clement said. "But we did take some steps in the right direction this season and I'm proud of that."
