Late 3-Point Spoils SOU's Upset Bid

Courtney May's 3-pointer with under a minute to play held off Southern Oregon's upset bid as 19th-ranked Concordia scored a 66-64 victory tonight in Portland.

Concordia improved to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon dropped to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Raiders travel to Warner Pacific Saturday night.

Danielle Clauson led Concordia with 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Scott led SOU with 14 points, while Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) and Josi McDermott (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) both had 10 points. SOU committed 23 turnovers in the game, while Concordia turned the ball over just seven times.

In the first half, Smith hit a pair of free throws midway through the period to give the Raiders a 15-14 lead the guests were off and running.

A bucket by Smith pushed the SOU advantage to 22-16 and the Raiders scored seven of the final nine points to give the Raiders a 37-26 halftime lead.

Concordia came back in the second half as back-to-back baskets by Clauson tied the game at 56-56. A basket by Gabi Beyer gave the Cavs their first lead of the second half at 60-58 with under 4:00 to play.

Free throws by Scott and a layup by Nicole Mowbray (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor) gave SOU the lead again at 62-60.

Mowbray hit another layup after a still for a 64-60 lead with almost a minute to play.

Clauson answered with 55 seconds to play to cut the lead to two at 64-62 and May buried a 3-pointer with 29 seconds to play to give Concordia the lead at 65-64. May added a free throw last for the final margin.
