Huge Second Half Leads Raiders Past Beacons

Four members of the Southern Oregon women scored in double-digits as the Raiders used a huge second half to come-from-behind for a 90-79 victory over Northwest Christian tonight in Eugene.

Southern Oregon improved to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in Cascade Conference play and travels to Corban tomorrow night. Northwest Christian fell to 4-9 overall and 0-4 in conference.

Josi McDermott (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) had her best game as a Raider, going for 23 points with three 3-pointers. Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) had 19 points and four 3-pointers, while Jamie Roupp (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) had 13 points.

Sheena Alexander had 22 points to lead Northwest Christian.

Northwest Christian started the game fast and led by 19 with 7:34 to play in the half.

The Raiders battled back and cut the lead to 48-35 at the half, thanks to holding the Beacons without a field goal for the final 2:34 of the half.

A pair of baskets each by Krystal Smith (Olympia, Wash./River Ridge) and Scott to start the second half helped SOU cut the lead to 52-46 early in the half. McDermott pulled the Raiders within 58-54 with a 3-pointer with 11:31 to play. A jumper by Roupp and McDermott free throws cut the lead to two at 60-58.

Following a Northwest Christian layup, Scott brought the Raiders to within one at 62-61 with her third 3-pointer of the game. McDermott then tied the game at 62-62 with a free throw at the 8:33 mark.

Celonna Arrington (Long Beach, Calif./Bellflower) gave SOU its first lead since early in the first half with a 3-pointer for a 67-66 advantage with 7:32 to go.

McDermott added a pair of free throws and then a 3-pointer for a 75-68 SOU lead with just over three minutes to play.

With 2:20 to go, Scott hit her fourth 3-pointer of the game to gave the Raiders a 78-70 lead and it was all SOU after that.

SOU out-scored NCU 55-31 in the second half.
