Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills)'s jumper as the buzzer sounded gave the Southern Oregon women a 61-60 victory over Warner Pacific tonight in Portland.
Southern Oregon improved to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in Cascade Conference play. Warner Pacific dropped to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) led SOU with 14 points including four 3-pointers. Scott finished with 13 points and a pair of 3-pointers.
Miranda Holenstein led Warner Pacific with 21 points.
The Raiders made many runs at the Knights in the second half.
Josi McDermott (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) cut the lead to 52-49 with a layup.
Jamie Roupp (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) cut it to 53-51 with a pair of free throws.
A layup by Krystal Smith (Olympia, Wash./River Ridge) cut the lead to 55-53 and a 3-pointer by Wood had the lead down to 58-56 with 3:13 to play in the game.
Again it was free throws by Roupp to get the advantage down to 60-58 with 1:55 to play.
Scott finally cut the lead to one at 60-59 by going 1-for-2 at the free throw line with 39 seconds to play and a turnover gave the Raiders a chance with under 10 seconds to play. Scott then took maters into her own hands and buried the game winning jumper as time expired..
