The Southern Oregon women's basketball team played its best game as of late as they rolled to a 74-62 victory over Northwest University at McNeal Pavilion tonight.
The win is the Raiders second consecutive and gives them a 6-8 conference record along with a 17-8 overall mark. Northwest dropped to 9-4 record in conference play and 13-8 overall.
In a season that has seen the Raiders drop games due to lapses in defense, Southern Oregon managed to stay solid for the entire 40 minutes by posting 46 defensive rebounds.
Seniors
Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita) and
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia) had 27 rebounds combined, compared to 28 by Northwest.
“When we play with such intensity and hard defense we can beat anybody,” SOU head coach
Lynn Kennedy said of the team's performance. “We talked about matching their intensity and I think we did that really well out there tonight.”
While Southern Oregon was staying strong on defense, offense was staying busy as well with
Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) hitting from outside. Wood posted a season-high 18 points, going 4-for-5 from 3-point land and 6-for-9 from the field.
Speer led all scorers with 25 points to go along with her 16 rebounds.
Southern Oregon returns to action Saturday night against Evergreen State for the annual Senior Night Game.
