In the last regular home game of the season, the Southern Oregon women's basketball recorded their third consecutive win defeating Evergreen State, 85-64, at McNeal Pavilion tonight.
With the win, the Raiders are now 7-8 in conference play and 18-8 overall. Evergreen dropped to 9-16 overall and 5-9 in conference.
It was an emotional night for Southern Oregon fans and players as seniors
Ashley Baker (Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita),
Jacki Speer (Centralia, Wash./Centralia),
Emily Brookins (Central Point, Ore./Crater),
Keri Nakamura (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) and
Chelsea Winner (Central Point, OR/Cascade Christian) made their final home appearance for the Raiders this season.
Their determination to end their home careers on a positive note helped spur the Raiders to the win.
Invigorated by last night's win over Northwest University, Southern Oregon continued their dominating defensive play against Evergreen.
The Raiders out-rebounded the Geoducks 46-22 for the game.
“The intensity from last night definitely carried over to tonight's game,” said SOU head coach
Lynn Kennedy. “We kept up the hard work on defense while grabbing 85 points at the other end.”
Speer led all scorers with 24 points on the night and managed to grab her forty-second career double-double with 15 rebounds as well.
Baker and
Jamie Roupp (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) each recorded 13 points for Southern Oregon while Evergreen was paced by Latrina Wood's 15 points.
The Raiders shooting was considerably more on target compared to previous games as they went 47 percent from the field and 81 percent from the line.
