The William Jessup softball team got hot offensively and cooled off the Southern Oregon bats during a doubleheader sweep to at University Field in Ashland.
The Warriors won the opener 10-1 in six innings and 9-3 in the nightcap.
The Warriors improved to 13-6 overall, while the Raiders dropped to 4-10. Southern Oregon opens Cascade Conference play next Friday at home against Eastern Oregon.
In the opener, the Wariors led 10-0 off of 10 hits and four SOU errors. In the bottom of the sixth,
Meghan Laughlin (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) led off with a triple and scored on a fielder's choice to score the only run for the Raiders and the game was called after six innings due to the eight-run rule.
In the nightcap, the Warriors jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Raiders warmed up.
Sarah Wharton (Ontario, Ore./Ontario) drove in two runs on a triple and then scored on a double by
Justine Fulton (Reno, Nev./McQueen) to cut the lead to 6-3.
William Jessup responded by scoring three in the top of the seventh and then sent the Raiders down in order to sweep the doubleheader.
Emily Matekel (Colfax, Calif./Colfax) had two of SOU's six hits in the game.
