The Southern Oregon softball team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to Corban this afternoon in the first game of the Cascade Conference Postseason Tournament in Portland.
Southern Oregon saw its season end with a 16-23 overall record. Corban went on to defeat fourth-ranked Concordia in the first game of a best two-out-of-three series to decide the conference's automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament.
Corban scored one run in the sixth inning and then one in the seventh to overcome an early 1-0 Southern Oregon lead.
Junior pitcher
Karri Johnson (Delta, British Columbia/Sands Secondary) gave the Warriors all they could handle through the first five innings, holding the No. 2 seed hitless through four and giving up just one hit through five innings of work.
Southern Oregon took a 1-0 lead after the first inning on a run-scoring single by senior
Bailey Price (Napa, Calif./Vintage) to drive in
Meghan Laughlin (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute).
In the sixth inning, Corban tied the game as Stephanie Nippert singled in a run to make it 1-1.
In the seventh inning, Liane Dehart drove in the winning run with two outs to give the Warriors a chance to play at the national tournament.
Laughlin had two hits to lead the Raiders. Price,
Irene Barrantes (Dos Palos, Calif./Dos Palos) and
Sarah Wharton (Ontario, Ore./Ontario) all had one hit.
Johnson finished the game giving up four hits and striking out four.
