Tess Bennett's 28 points led Corban to a 92-89 overtime victory over the Southern Oregon women tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Warriors improved to 13-9 overall and 8-4 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon dropped to 13-11 overall and 6-6 in league. SOU hosts Northwest Christian tomorrow night at 5:30.
Bennett led all scorers with 28 points and added seven rebounds. Emily Tsugawa added 22 points for the Warriors, while Katie Steigleman had 15 and Jennesa Miller chipped in 12.
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) led the Raiders with 21 points on nine for 11 shooting.
RaTanya Newsome (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson) had a season-high 17 points, while
Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) had 14 points and
Jamie Roupp (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) added 11.
The two teams battled back-and-forth in the first half with Corban taking a 35-34 lead into the lockerrooms thanks to 13 points and three 3-pointers by Tsugawa.
The Warriors upped the lead to 47-40 early in the second half on a jumper by Steigleman and then a layup by Janessa Miller gave the Warriors a 49-40 lead with 14:55 to play.
Corban pushed the lead to 51-40 before SOU ended the run with a layup by
RaTanya Newsome (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson). A free throw and another layup by Newsome had the lead down to six at 51-45.
A pair of free throws by Newsome cut the lead to 53-49 with under 13:00 to play.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Scott tied the game at 57-57 with 10:25 left in the game.
Tsugawa's fourth 3-pointer of the game pushed Corban ahead again at 60-57.
The Raiders came right back, taking a 61-60 lead on an
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) jumper and a 63-62 lead on free throws by Scott.
After that, neither team led by more then four.
The two teams traded jumpers with under 2:00 to play, one by Scott and one by Bennett to tie the game at 76-76 heading into the final minute.
Krystal Smith (Olympia, Wash./River Ridge) gave the Raiders a 78-76 with 21 seconds to play and Miller tied it for the Warriors with seven seconds left to send it to overtime.
After
Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) gave the Raiders the early lead at 80-78 with free throws, Bennett hit from downtown for an 81-80 Corban advantage.
After the score was tied at 83-83, Steigleman gave the Warriors an 86-83 with her third 3-pointer of the night and then iced the game with free throws.
A pair of late 3-pointers by the Raiders cut the lead to 90-89 before Corban ended the game with free throws.
