The Southern Oregon women took advantage of numerous easy baskets for a 98-65 home rout of Simpson tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
SOU improved to 10-8 with the victory and will return to Cascade Conference play Friday at home against Evergreen State at 7:30 p.m. Simpson dropped to 3-11 on the season.
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) led all scorers with 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Lindsey Scheffler (Castle Rock, Wash./Toutle Lake) finished with 15 points, while
Carly Wood (Sacramento, Calif./Bella Vista) had 14 points,
Kiara Moore (Phoenix, Ariz./Tolleson Union) had 11 points and
Nicole Mowbray (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor) and
Whitney Scott (Tumwater, Wash./Black Hills) both had 10 points.
Charissa Murakami had 19 points for the Red Hawks
A Scott 3-pointer with four minutes to play in the half gave SOU a 34-29 lead and after a pair of
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) free throws SOU had a commanding 36-29 lead.
The lead grew to 39-31 after a Wood 3-pointer and SOU cruised to a 44-36 halftime lead after shooting 53 percent.
The Raiders continued to push the tempo, taking the lead to 51-36 on a fastbreak basket by Moore. The lead got up to 57-40 on a running jumper by Mowbray as SOU made six of its first seven shots of the half.
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) went for five straight points to push the lead to 64-40 with 13:30 to play.
Josi McDermott (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) and Wood then hit back-to-back 3-pointers for a 70-43 advantage and the SOU rout was on.
