ASHLAND, Ore. – Southern Oregon took the lead midway through the first half and scored three late goals in the second to pull away from Oregon Tech 4-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer Sunday afternoon at University Field.
With the win, SOU improves to 8-5-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Oregon Tech falls to 4-6-1 overall and 2-3 in the CCC. The Raiders return to action next weekend, when they host College of Idaho in a CCC match scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday at University Field.
“We're really pleased with the quality of that victory,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said. “For the most part we did an excellent job of nullifying their dangerous players.”

Danielle Stave (Petaluma, Calif./St Vincent de Paul) scored the first goal for the Raiders, taking the ball in the left corner of the box following a corner kick and knocking it into the upper right corner of the net in the 23rd minute. The Raiders outshot the Owls 21-3 in the match and 10-2 in the opening period, but that would be the only goal they would score until the final 20 minutes of the match.
Stephanie Carr (Upland, Calif./Upland) gave the Raiders some insurance in the 72nd minute, taking a pass from
Alexis Mahoney (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) on the right side of the goal and putting it in from 10 yards out. Less than five minutes later,
Julie Zamzow (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) made it 3-0 with a close-range goal from the left side of the net.
Sydney Paulsen (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley) scored the final goal for SOU with a straight-on shot from 15 yards out to the top left corner of the goal in the 85th minute.
“Our final-third play was really outstanding, some of the best stuff we've put together all year,” Clement said. “The technical level of the goals was stunning, Danielle's and Sydney's goals particularly.”
Jessica Kuehlwein (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) made one save while playing the first 81:07 in goal for the Raiders, before
Kelsey Clement (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor) came in for the final nine minutes. Rebekah Matteri picked up eight saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Owls.
“Full credit to our team, we came out with a good mentality and had the right tactical approach,” Clement said. “It was a good victory for us. Still, there are quite a number of difficult games to go, and we have to take them one at a time, beginning with a very skilled College of Idaho team in our next game.”
