ASHLAND, Ore. – Southern Oregon led for more than 40 minutes and held a 1-0 advantage at halftime, but a pair of second-half goals for No. 4 Concordia gave the Cavaliers the 2-1 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer Monday afternoon at University Field.

With the loss, Southern Oregon drops to 4-5-1 overall this season and 1-1 in the CCC. Concordia improves to 7-3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

The Raiders opened the scoring in the 17th minute, when Alexis Mahoney (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente)'s pass to the middle of the box bounced off a pair of CU players and into the net. Southern Oregon held possession for much of the first half, with all four of the Raiders' corner kicks coming in the opening period.

“We were really excited about the way we started the game off,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said. “We had great attacking posture and moments of really fluid vibrant possession.”

Concordia tied it up in the 59th minute, when SOU goalkeeper deflected Jackie Hendrickson's shot in the box over to CU's Kaylynn Winwood, who knocked it into the left side of the goal following a Cavalier corner kick. The Cavs took the lead in the 72nd minute, with Hendrickson scoring the game-winner on a shot to the left side from about 10 yards out off a crossing pass from Tahlia O'Loughlin.

“In the second half, you have to give credit to Concordia,” Clement said. “After about an hour they changed into another gear, and I'm not quite sure that we matched them. Some of that is them doing well and some of that is us learning to focus and play for 90 minutes.”

Jessica Kuehlwein (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) finished with five saves in the match, with CU goalkeeper Tori Talbutt saving two shots.

For Southern Oregon, the first half marked the first time in six years that the Raiders have scored against Concordia. Clement sees that, along with the team's performance against a difficult non-conference schedule, as signs of the team's progress.

“I do feel that we have one of the elite teams in the country,” Clement said. “Our players have been very brave in the face of a very difficult schedule, and we have proven to ourselves that we can play with, and at times completely outdo, top teams. Now the key is for us to get better still this week and aim to put our best 90 minutes together this coming Saturday.”

Southern Oregon returns to action Saturday, when the Raiders travel to Salem to face Corban at 2 p.m.
