IRVINE, Calif. --
Monica Haynes' goal in the 60th minute proved to be the difference as No. 20 Concordia-Irvine defeated Southern Oregon 1-0 on Monday.

With the loss, Southern Oregon falls to 2-2 on the season and finishes its California road trip with a 1-2 record in three matches. The Raiders return to action with a non-conference match against Linfield, Sept. 9, at 4 p.m. in McMinnville.

"I'm very proud of our team for a fantastic effort," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "We had our foot on the right pedal from the start and had moments in the first half that were stunning, and unfortunately we just couldn't find the final ball to get in behind the other team."

Concordia improved to 6-0 with the win, outshooting the Raiders 8-1 in the match. Raider goalkeeper Jessica Kuehlwein (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) tallied fived saves for SOU, with Julie Zamzow (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) posting the Raiders' only shot, in the 16th minute of play. Hayne's second goal of the season came 15 minutes into the second half, assisted by Loren Kortizija to clinch the win.

"We have to give credit to Concordia, because they took over the game and the goal was a quality goal," Clement said. "While it's disappointing to lose for sure, I'm glad we lost to a good team on a good goal."

Despite the 1-2 record on the trip, Clement found many positives in the team's play against quality opponents and believes it will serve the squad well the rest of the season.

"It's been a very positive trip, we've played well and had the top two teams in the GSAC on the ropes for a lot of the time," Clement said. "We'll recover well and be ready to play a very good Linfield team on Friday."
