SOU Women Earn 51-41 Road Win Over Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Southern Oregon outscored Evergreen by eight points in the second half as the Raiders pulled away to a 51-41 women's basketball victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference action Friday night at CRC Gymnasium.

Southern Oregon improves to 12-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while Evergreen falls to 4-13 overall and 2-6 in the CCC. The Raiders return to action tomorrow night, when they will face Northwest at 5:30 p.m. in Kirkland.

Haley Newell (Santa Monica, Calif./) led Southern Oregon with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. Angelica Cahee (Oroville, Calif./) added 11 points and filled up the stat sheet with five rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Sami Clark scored 15 points for Evergreen to lead all scorers and added nine rebounds and five steal. Jessica Edge grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, and Mele Rich finished with nine steals.

The first half featured seven tie scores and seven lead changes as Southern Oregon took a 24-22 lead into the break. The game remained close through the first five minutes of the second half, with Clark's jumper tying the score at 30-30 with 15 minutes to play.

Southern Oregon outscored Evergreen 15-4 over the next 10 minutes of play to take an 11-point lead with five minutes to go, the Raiders' largest lead of the contest. The Geoducks scored the next seven points to pull within four points at 45-41 on Clark's layup with two minutes remaining.

Newell ended the Evergreen run with a three-pointer on the ensuing possession, and the Raiders made three of four free throws down the stretch to seal the road victory. The Raiders shot 31.7 percent (19-of-60) from the field, but the SOU defense limited Evergreen to only 23.3 percent shooting (14-of-60) for the game, including 8-of-38 in the second half.
