Box Score KLAMATH FALLS – Southern Oregon's
Stephanie Carr (Upland, Calif./Upland) scored a pair of second-half goals to help the Raiders earn a 3-1 women's soccer victory over rival Oregon Tech Sunday afternoon.
Southern Oregon improves to 8-5-2 overall and 4-2-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, while Oregon Tech falls to 6-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the CCC. The Raiders head into the final week of the 2012 regular season tied for fourth in the conference standings with 13 points, with the top four teams at the end of the regular season set to advance to the CCC Tournament.
“That was a terrific performance from us,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said. “We're really pleased with the amount of time we spent with the ball. I thought we were solid from start to finish and we got really good results today.”
The Raiders outshot Oregon Tech 17-8 in the match, and all four goals occurred in the second half. Carr put SOU on the board in the 51st minute when she scored on a penalty kick, and
Megan McArthur (San Jose, Calif./Presentation) made it a 2-0 lead two minutes later when she shot from 15 yards out on the left side and sent it past the OIT goalkeeper.
Hanna Gil pulled the Owls within one in the 79th minute, putting the ball into the net off a corner kick assist from Rebekah Nisbet. Carr gave SOU an insurance goal in the 86th minute when she scored her 12th of the season and extended her career record to 35, taking a pass from
Sydney Paulsen (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley) on the right side and knocking it into the center of the goal from 10 yards out.
“I thought particularly late in the second half after the other team got a goal our response was terrific,” Clement said. “The ability to go right back at them and separate ourselves again was very good.”
Kelsey Clement (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Raiders, making a pair of saves while giving up the one goal. Rebekah Matteri picked up six saves and allowed three goals for the Owls.
Southern Oregon concludes its regular season schedule next week, with the Raiders facing College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho, at 1 p.m. on Friday before visiting Eastern Oregon in next Sunday's regular season finale.
“All in all, it was a really good performance,” Clement said. “Now we need to follow it up and get ready for a difficult road trip and a tough couple of games. We know the task is not over.”
