EUGENE – The Southern Oregon women's basketball team took to the court against an NCAA Division I team Tuesday night, falling to Oregon 118-74 in an exhibition contest.
Southern Oregon officially opens the season this weekend, hosting the Red Lion/SOU Women's Basketball Classic at Bob Riehm Arena. The Raiders play at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, taking on California Maritime in Friday's first official game.
Oregon limited SOU to a 30.4 shooting percentage (28-of-92) and forced 24 turnovers, while the Ducks shot 42.2 percent (46-of-109) in the game.
Melissa Sweat (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) led SOU with 22 points, while
Allison Gida (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) added 14 and
Ashley Claussen (Scotts Valley, Calif./Santa Cruz) tallied 11.
Kiara Moore (Phoenix, Ariz./Tolleson Union) finished with a team-high 13 rebounds.
Lexi Petersen led all scorers with 27 points and Amanda Delgado tallied 22 for the Ducks. Jillian Alleyne finished with a game-high 16 rebounds and Megan Carpenter totaled 13. Laura Stanulis compiled 18 assists.
Southern Oregon held a brief lead in the opening minute when Sweat drove into the lane for a layup and picked up a free throw to convert a three-point play to put the Raiders up 3-2. Oregon used a 16-2 run to pull ahead by 13, and the Ducks would lead by double digits the rest of the way. Oregon finished with 61 points in the first half, while the Raiders went into the break with 32 points.
