ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team will play its final home matches of the 2012 regular season this weekend, hosting Corban on Friday at 3 p.m. and Northwest Christian on Sunday's Senior Day at 1 p.m. at University Field.
Southern Oregon, 6-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, enters the weekend tied for fourth in the conference standings with seven total points. Concordia (3-0), Oregon Tech (3-1) and Northwest Christian (3-1) all have nine points to tie atop the standings. Teams earn three points for each conference win and one point for each tie.
The Raiders picked up a 3-2 overtime victory against Warner Pacific last Friday before falling 2-0 to top-ranked Concordia. Southern Oregon picked up seven points in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll, the only CCC team aside from Concordia to receive votes.
“We got a lot of experience that we'll use for this coming weekend,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said of the matches in Portland against Warner Pacific and Concordia. “We're fired up for Senior Weekend at home and our last regular season home conference weekend, so we're good to go.”
Sunday's match will feature Senior Day festivities prior to kickoff, as the Raiders will honor the four seniors on the 2012 team.
Krista Bormann (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) and
Lauren Maserjian (Placentia, Calif./Valencia) will join fellow seniors Carr and Hamer to be honored with their families and guests in a ceremony on the field at 12:45.
With five matches remaining in the regular season, SOU ranks in the top half of the conference in almost every team statistical category. The Raiders rank second in shots (169), points (65), goals (25) and corner kicks (56), and they rank third in assists (15) and goals against average (1.43).
Stephanie Carr (Upland, Calif./Upland) ranks second in the conference with nine goals this season and has tied the SOU career mark of 32 goals set by Katie Emerson. Carr has already claimed the SOU career titles in game-winning goals (12) and shots (175), and she is one goal away from being the sole leader in program history.
Sydney Paulsen (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley) has added four goals for the Raiders, with
Julie Zamzow (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) and
Stacy Hamer (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) each tallying three.
Corban comes into Friday's match with a 2-2 conference record, 7-5 overall. The Warriors lead the conference in scoring, with 29 goals in 12 matches to average 2.42 per match. Their aggressive style has also placed them atop the conference rankings in assists (24), fouls (143) and offsides (37).
Audrey Sullivan's 48 shots lead the CCC, as do her 10 total goals and 22 points. Emily Tsugawa ranks second in points with 19 (seven goals, five assists), and Katelyn and Terrika Weaver have each added four goals for the Warriors. Emily Boudreau's six assists are the most in the CCC this season, and Alexis Beatties' 1.06 goals against average ranks second.
The Raiders have struggled historically against Corban, with only four wins and one tie in 22 all-time meetings between the teams. Corban won the first 10 matchups, but the teams have split 2-2-1 during the past four years. Last season, the Raiders knocked off Corban 2-1 in Salem.
Northwest Christian enters the weekend with a 3-1 conference record, 5-5-2 overall. The Beacons' five shutouts lead the CCC, and their 6.17 per-game save average ranks third. Melyssa Weber ranks fourth in the conference with six goals, while Stevie Harrison, Katelyn Partridge and Mishayla Bertelsen have each added three for the Beacons.
Southern Oregon owns a 6-0 all-time record against Northwest Christian in a series that dates back to the Beacons joining the conference in 2006. The Raiders have outscored the Beacons 18-3 in their six matches and have shut NCU out in each of the past two meetings. Southern Oregon picked up a 1-0 win in Eugene last season.
