CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah scored 53 points in the second half to pull away to a 99-71 victory over Southern Oregon in a women's basketball exhibition contest Saturday night at Centrum Arena.
Melissa Sweat (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) scored 26 points to lead Southern Oregon, while
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) added 13 points. Sofia Hepworth tallied 21 points for Southern Utah, while Hailey Mandelko finished with 18 points and Carli Moreland posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Southern Oregon shot 46.7 percent (14-of-30) in the first half and made all eight free throw attempts as the Raiders hung close throughout the period, trailing 46-39 at halftime. The Raiders struggled after the break, however, shooting only 25.8 percent (8-of-31) as Southern Utah outscored the visitors by 21 to pull away to the 28-point victory.
The Raiders will look to improve on their 2-0 record this season when they return home Monday to host Pacific Union in a nonconference game at 5 p.m. at Bob Riehm Arena.
