PORTLAND –
The top-ranked Southern Oregon men's cross country team claimed its fifth consecutive Cascade Collegiate Conference championship, while the women's team finished sixth Saturday at Lents Park.

Five Raider men earned all-conference honors by finishing in the top 12 to help SOU extend its championship streak to five, the longest such streak since Eastern Oregon won 10 straight from 1994 through 2003. Scott McIntyre (Redding, Calif./Ponderosa) finished second overall in 25:02.84, followed by SOU runners Eric Avila (Chula Vista, Calif./Bonita Vista) in 25:09.97 and Tyler VanDyke (Eagle Point, Ore./Eagle Point) in 25:12.03, giving the Raiders three of the top four finishers.

Brett Hornig (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) placed seventh (25:18.35) and Jared Hixon (Palmdale, Calif./Palmdale) finished 12th (25:26.18) to give SOU five all-CCC performers, with 15th-place Eric Ghelfi (Redding, Calif./Redding Adventist Academy) and 17th-place Nathan Normo (Sherwood, Ore./Lake Oswego) narrowly missing out on all-conference honors. College of Idaho's Greg Montgomery won the individual title, finishing in a time of 24:35 to earn CCC Athlete of the Year honors.

“The guys ran really well on a muddy and slick course,” SOU head coach Grier Gatlin said after being named CCC Men's Coach of the Year.

The women's team placed sixth overall, behind third-ranked conference champion College of Idaho (39 points), No. 22 Eastern Oregon (71), No. 7 Northwest Christian (72), No. 24 Northwest (115) and Concordia (120).

Ann Hagy posted a personal-best time in the women's 5k race to earn all-conference honors with an 11th-place finish in 18:37.57. Alexandra Rudd (North Bend, Wash./Mount Si) finished 16th in 18:49.32 to fall a few spots shy of all-CCC recognition.

“The women ran really well in a very tough conference,” Gatlin said.

The men's team will receive the CCC automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships on Nov. 17 at Fort Vancouver in Vancouver, Wash.
