Box Score SALEM – An 11-2 run midway through the first half gave Southern Oregon the lead for good as the Raiders pulled away to a 92-74 Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over Corban Saturday night at C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
Saturday's win ended a seven-game losing streak to the defending conference champions, as the Raiders claimed their first win against Corban since the 2008-09 season. Southern Oregon improves to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Corban falls to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the CCC. The Raiders return to action Dec. 8, when they will travel to Redding, Calif., for a 2 p.m. nonconference game against Simpson.
Angelica Cahee (Oroville, Calif./) led the way for the Raiders with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting.
Allison Gida (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) posted a double-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and
Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) added a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Melissa Sweat (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) finished with 18 points in the win.
Emily Tsugawa tallied a game-high 25 points for the Warriors, with Tess Bennett chipping in 15 and Tara VanWeerdhuizen adding 13. Southern Oregon out-rebounded Corban 52-33 in the game, while the Raiders connected on 52.2 percent of their shots attempts (36-of-69) and the Warriors hit 39.2 percent (31-of-79).
An even game for the first 10 minutes, the Raiders closed the first half on a 27-18 run to claim a 43-34 halftime advantage. Corban scored 10 of the first 14 points of the second period to pull within four following a jumper by Bennett, and a few minutes later the Warriors again pulled within three following back-to-back three-pointers by Megan Benedict and Tsugawa.
The Raiders responded on the next possession, as Gida dropped a trey to spark an 11-point SOU streak that stretched the lead to 14 with 11:20 to play. Corban pulled back to within eight a few minutes later, but Southern Oregon pulled away to close out the 92-74 win.
